Harlands Primary School

First Aid/Administration of Medicines

Children who need first aid can be treated in school for minor cuts and bruises.  In the event of more serious injury, we will advise parents so that they can arrange the necessary treatment.  If a child requires urgent treatment, we will contact the emergency services immediately and inform parents as soon as we can.

If your child is sick, we will contact you and ask you to collect them.

Children who have been sick, or have diarrhoea, should not return to school until 48 hours AFTER the last bout of illness.

In accordance with our management of medicines policy, the school will administer prescribed asthma inhalers, antihastimine and auto-injector pens once the appropriate consent has been completed.

In addition, in certain circumstances the school will administer non-prescription paracetamol and antihistamine, provided the appropriate consent has been completed.  The school will also now be able to administer antibiotics, but only when a fourth dose is required.

The school also needs to be made aware of any other significant medical condition affecting your child, and should be updated if there are any changes.
